TOTAL DHAMAAL : A MOVIE THAT’LL MAKE YOU LAUGH ONLY IF YOU FORGET THE FIRST TWO INSTALLMENTS OF THIS TRILOGY

Director: Indra Kumar

Cast: Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgan, Madhuri Dixit, Ritesh Deshmukh, Esha Gupta, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey, Sanjay Mishra, Pitobash, Vijay Patkar, Boman Irani

TOTAL DHAMAAL basically seems like a remake of the first movie from the DHAMAAL series. The movie revolves around a bunch of strangers and their pursuit to find 50 crore rupees hidden under a big “OK” at a zoo in janakpur.

The film features a huge cast like its previous installments. Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Mishra play the role of well-groomed thugs and it is from their harpy effort the movie begins. Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit are portrayed as a couple on the cusp of getting divorced. Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey are shown as two brothers who are not so fortunate when it comes to earning money with Manav(Javed Jaffery)  screwing things up with his funny wisdom and not so smart actions. Ritesh Deshmukh and Pitobash are shown as two firemen who were suspended due to their bribe-seeking actions while rescuing people. The movie also features Boman Irani who plays the role of a corrupt police commissioner accompanied by Vijay Patkar as his Subordinate.

The movie seems like a set of different acts strung together to look like a single plot. Still, the movie at some places is genuinely funny like the small cameo played by Johnny Lever, Ritesh’s false pledges to God when he was stranded at the top of an under-construction building along with Pitobash and an okay laugh too came when a man mistaken by the name of pilot was forced to fly a  plane. Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit’s chemistry seemed a bit unutilized.

The last part of the movie where everything culminates seemed a bit rushed.  Esha Gupta’s role failed to impress, she could have been introduced a bit early if there was chemistry to be shown between her and Ajay Devgan. All in all the movie looks hampered by a lazy script which fails to pack a punch of laughter that the fans expect.

Our rating for the film would be two-and-a-half out of five

RATING:- 2.5/5
